Honda V6 Excessive Oil Consumption

Whenever somebody asks me for a used sedan recommendation and they're not a "car enthusiast" (but then, they wouldn't ask me in that case anyway), one of first cars I think of is the Honda Accord. In the past, Honda has been a go-to for that sort of thing, despite past issues with rusting, short-lived automatic transmissions and the current airbag recall(s).

Yeah, well...my contact at Honda has pointed out that the following V6 models are eating oil like it's going out of style. As in, there's a massive problem. Quietly, Honda has been replacing some of these cars' blocks to alleviate the problem. It's a mess, according to my source and it's not only costing the company oodles of money but it's tarnishing the brand that built a name around precise engineering and ease of ownership. Here's the list of identified vehicles, thus far.
  • 2008-12 Accord
  • 2008-13 Odyssey
  • 2009-13 Pilot
  • 2010-12 Crosstour
Question; what about the Ridgeline, MDX, ZDX, RL and TL? If you own any of these vehicles, contact your dealer ASAP.

Nutz.

  1. Wow, first you teach me about the Hyundai engine problems, and now Honda. This site is a lot more valuable that just entertainment. Thanks K2.

  2. Interesting what doesn't escape the corporate black hole unless there's a leak. In this case, literally! I did some internet searching and I found several complaints regarding exactly what you wrote about. Seems it's truly a problem and not what Honda/Acura needs right now.
