The Search For A New MPV: Step 4 - Let's Drive!

Test drives to establish which minivan would be in the running was next up on our hit list. We were still at the Honda dealership with the super nice salesman, so we had him pull out a couple of Honda Odysseys and a Toyota Sienna.

Volvo's Drive-E Twincharged 4-cylinder

Count us impressed. Not only has Volvo taken the plunge to commit itself currently and in the near future to 4-cylinder only cars (hybrids aside), but they also went somewhere no other carmaker other than Volkswagen has gone and offered a production OEM twincharged engine. That's right, their 4-cylinder engine has both a turbocharger and a supercharger.

Don't bother looking at an image of this engine with
the hood open; it's less exciting than a brick.

Swearingen Swears It's So

Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President of beleaguered Mitsubishi Motors North America had this to say in a recent interview.

"Clearly it (the Mitsubishi Mirage) is in a segment that a lot of companies have left behind because a lot just can't give the features that these customers are looking for in a vehicle at that price range."

REV: That's because there's no money to be made in the city car class. Your best seller is a minimal profit, zero presence product..."Nice sixth-gen Mirage!" said nobody, ever.

Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015

Booyaa!

A BILL

To direct the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to establish a program allowing low volume motor vehicle manufacturers to produce a limited number of vehicles annually within a regulatory system that addresses the unique safety and financial issues associated with limited production, and to direct the Environmental Protection Agency to allow low volume motor vehicle manufacturers to install engines from vehicles that have been issued certificates of conformity.

Thank you, Congressman Mullin

MINI Clubman - Hey, Your Barn Door Is Open!

BMW continues to take MINI even bigger with the 2016 Clubman. Styling and putting the fact that the design impairs the drivers line of sight aside, we're particularly intrigued by the flexibility of the actual usage. Pretty neat! Is the host Canadian? We still think it should have been a straight-up hatchback, though.
