AACA Museum’s “A Family Affair: Station Wagons” Exhibit

Most gear heads love a great car museum. Scratch that; they love any car museum. Geographical proximity to where they live more often or not is the deciding factor to which is their favorite. Regardless of these criteria, the Antique Automobile Club of America’s Museum (AACA) is an absolute knockout.

Conveniently positioned in the namesake community created by chocolate mogul Milton Hershey, the AACA is located in a purpose-built building that showcases notable motorized conveyances and memorabilia in a bright, modern setting. The enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff are at the ready to give more details and discuss featured pieces. Three levels include permanent and temporary exhibits, all punctuated by informative displays that not only give the history of what guests are looking at but also wonderful trivia.

Hand-picked by the museum to best represent each model, both restored and original cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles are situated in themed displays, which add to the fun and really set the mood. You're instantly transported back to the day and time; a real time machine!

The contents of the museum includes several vehicles featured in movies and some were even owned by famous folks, notably Whitney Houston’s 1986 Rolls Royce limousine. No decade of transportation is ignored and there’s something for every gear head’s particular interest, from muscle cars to Indian motorcycles and everything in between.

The AACA isn't some stuffy, dusty museum where you can’t get anywhere close to the artwork; they think outside the box and come up with some of the most lively, creative exhibits and events imaginable. This past summer the museum put together what must be the mother of all station wagon exhibits, which ran from May 23 through October 11, 2015. Relive this once in a lifetime car fanatic’s experience with a behind the scenes look at not only how the exhibit came together but also a spotlight on each vehicle.
