Based on the Anglia 100E sedan, the Ford Squire was a neat little 2-door estate that included a panel version badged the Thames (300). The Squire only lasted until 1959, but it was also sold as the cheaper Escort until 1961.
I love these period advertising pieces. Seeing the Thames van reminded me of a whole class of city delivery vehicles that used to exist. These things were huge in Europe in the 1960s. The 800-1100cc Renault F6 and the 425-600cc Citroen AK-series vans were the norm. Ford has made a small nod to this market with the current Focus-based Transit Connect, and I am seeing more small businesses using them, such as electricians, plumbers, heating and cooling companies.

ReplyDeleteYes, the smaller cargo vans are very popular around here. Chevy, Nissan, Ram and I'm seeing a lot of the larger Metris MBs, too.
