Shortest 2016 Car Sold In US

Length-wise and a production model, that is. So, which one is it? Any guesses?

The Peel P50 doesn't count. Sorry.

Of interest to highly populated city dwellers and folks that need a tow vehicle ("toad"), our best and first guess is the Smart fortwo hatchback at 8 feet, 10.1 inches.

Got a shorter one?

  1. Dang, the Smart was going to be my guess too. This list says the Smart is the winner:

How about the same question, but historical: Shortest production car ever sold in the US?

I might guess the Isetta, at 7.5 feet.

  2. I think that may be difficult unless you define what "sold in the U.S." means. If you include all of the cars privately imported, then it's rather open-ended. My guess is that's why K2 preemptively posted the picture of the P50, an example of which a person can still purchase new from the factory to this very day. I'm sure collectors are still importing them all of the world, too.

I love the Isetta concept that's been floating around lately, though.

  3. Interesting ideas, B and B. I wonder what the shortest domestic car made on US soil was?

    You know me well, Bolo.

    1. I would guess the Crosley Super Sport or Hotshot. I have nothing to back this up, so I will just state it as if it were fact!

    2. Lovely little cars, both models were 137 inches long. The 1939-1942 Crosley Convertible was only 120.

  4. Do electric cars count?

    1. Go for it! Just looking for shorties made by a domestic maker on US soil. Let's shoot for more than 1000-ish or more produced.

    2. I don't believe Corbin and the subsequent manufacturers quite reached that production number but the Sparrow was 96 inches long.

    3. The Sebring-Vanguard Citicar was one inch shorter. If you included all of the models by that company and the other companies that produced them, it would exceed your 1K rule. But I don't think the original Citicar surpassed that number. It's possible that I am wrong. But that's probably my vote for shorted domestic vehicle built on domestic soil.

    4. Winna! At least, unless somebody else comes up with a shorter one.
