I posted this wagon not only for nostalgia, but to recall the number of electronic doodads in cars even back in the 80s. The K-cars had an amazing array of them, you've got your "Door is ajar" vehicles and whatnot. Rust has taken so many of these cars off the road (and the economics of fixing a vehicle that's worth nothing), more than electronic problems.
I remember sitting in a K-convertible for the first time and remarking how it will be interesting to see if the gewgaws caused the vehicle to be less than desirable in the future. I was wrong - it was so much more than that with those cars.
You weren't kidding. I did a quick search online for an Aries station wagon. There's weren't many for sale. Plenty of sedans and coupes but very few wagons.
Nice! I was waiting for it to say "I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that". At $300, this is true dedication to preserving our digital heritage.
I have a personal connection to this voice. Back in the early 80s, my first house was a row house, and therefore quarters were very close. Our bedroom window overlooked the driveways. My next door neighbour had a voice-equipped Chrysler product. Very early every damned morning, he would back out of the garage, then get out to close the garage door. Of course the frickin' voice would announce "A door is ajar". Great way to wake up..... every damned morning!
Here is an in-situ recording of the same chip, also amusing. The owner calls the voice "Zoltan".
Thanks for the vids, you two. Those were fantastic. That's what I remember. An acquaintance had the convertible version with all that junk in it. I remember comparing it to my Maxima of similar vintage, with similar vocal screeching. But somehow it was far better than the K-car's.
