Wow, I love that set up! Too bad it did not catch on. It even addresses the misery of reversing the whole rig (I can do that, but my neck objects more every year!) I wonder how the ball assembly is attached to the roof? It looks like the hitch is bolted through the roof rails on the VW.
I often use "small" cars (Mazda3, Focus, Escort) for towing, but the range of available trailers is very limited in North America. Even a lot of folding campers (Coleman style) are built with at least Class 2 hitches in mind, and little attention to weight saving.
I just had a thought: how does the wiring work for this thing? Would it not get all twisted unless you were careful to always equal out your clockwise and counterclockwise spins?
