Here it is, the 2017 IntelliChoice 5-Year Residual Value biggest
winner. It's Japanese and it's...a wagon (and also a sedan)!

No, I didn't stutter.

Nope, it still ain't purty. |
On the flip side from yesterday's biggest loser, here's the winner; the 2017 Subaru Impreza! Okay, okay, it's once again technically a hatchback, but give an old OCR sufferer like me a little slack.

Rear leg room is a surprising 35+ inches. Now built in the USofA. |
At 67% residual value after 5 years, the small Subie sedan and wagon outshone even the Toyotas (who were, admittedly, very close). It still baffles me that Subaru can't produce a
pretty car and that their turbocharged engines are ticking time bombs. At least the interiors are stomach-able now. They may not be gorgeous or stylish (unlike just about every other carmakers' in the universe), but at least they're not an eyesore.
If there ever was a car to lease or get out of after a couple of years' ownership before the inevitable engine-go-boom, this is it! Or, go naturally aspirated and save yourself the heartache and keep it forever(ish).
Challenge; I have yet to read the curb weight on the '17 Imp wagonette. If you run across it, please post it in the comments!
I don't get the cult of Subaru. They're no better than just about any other manufacturer these days and they don't even offer much product variety. When I read owner reviews, it's clear that there aren't enough of them on the road to get a clear picture of the problems and when I go to the forums, it's clear that there are plenty.
