That's what I call understated. |
How does this sound; a hand-built (by AMG), supercharged 5.4 liter V8 pumping out 469 hp and 520 foot-pounds of torque, backed up with a 5-speed automatic?
If that doesn't perk up your ears, how does a 0-60 in 4.1 seconds sound to you at a current KBB of only $12.8K (though it will be extremely difficult to find one that low - you're talking somewhere around $20K most likely)? It's successor, the E63 wagon didn't increase the performance and other than being newer, offers nothing other than a higher price tag.
No? You might be in a coma, dead or frightened of the impending and stupendous maintenance costs that go with just about every Mercedes-Benz. But maybe you're pretty good with a wrench, have a garage full of tools and you're a station wagon fanatic like me? Well, you're not going get much more powerful than this. On top of all that, there are surprisingly plenty of ways to up the performance even more!
Too cuckoo for you? How about a more mainstream AWD E500 wagon with the 5.0 V8? That puppy still skips from 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, is even cheaper and more easily located.
But back to the E55; it was originally an $90K car. Ouch! Ah, the depreciation of M-B. Ain't it a wonderful thing?
I have to say that this beast does have a nice "sit" to it. I could happily pass on the "ArM and a leG" version, and just go for the mundane E500. Did that one come in RWD only also? I am all about reducing complexity. Oh wait, we are talking about a modern Mercedes. Forget I said that!
ReplyDeleteI'm torn over this wagon. That performance is so enticing. But pretty much everything else is not, including that hideous interior.
ReplyDeleteYes, you could have your E500 with AWD!
Oh, hang on a minute. Don't pull the trigger on that AMG wagon too quickly. Have a look at this first:

Now THERE'S some bragging rights!
$130K?!? Still...neato-bandito!
DeleteWhy don't you like the interior?
ReplyDeleteBaby poop colored wood trim, for starters. Plus, controls purposefully designed to require a learning curve - a tradition with MB.
DeleteThat really is shyte. Wood trim should warm up the interior.
