1969-1980 Fiat 128 Familiare/Panorama

Last week's station wagon spotlight on the Fiat 130 Opera generated quite a bit of off-blog discussion. So, what came next?

C'mon...that's just cool.

Now, you may be saying, "Hey K2, what about the 124 Special wagon?" And you'd be right, but let's focus on 1969 and beyond (the 124 wagon dated back to 1967).

We never got the 130 Opera, as I mentioned. Unfortunately, Mamma Fiat decided in 1969 not to import the 3-door 128 Familiare, either. In Latin America, there was a 5-door, too.

That's a bummer because this was a neat little hummer, with a 1.1-liter inline four-cylinder, with a whopping 49 horsepower pushing around a featherweight ~1700 pounds. And therein lay the rub - too small and under-powered for overfed American tastes.

Too bad, neat little cars. Thankfully, the story doesn't end there for us in the States. Let's check out what we could purchase tomorrow. Stay tuned, Tony!
