"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" you say. "K2, have you lost your marbles again and forgotten the mid-sized Fiat Tempra?"
That's one tiny windmill, which I'm assuming is to scale. Right? |
Uncontrollable marbles aside, no, I have not forgotten the Tempra. I warned you that I would jump around in the Fiat station wagon timeline, so address your concerns to my lawyer and/or psychiatrist; your choice.
The follow-up to the Regata, the Tempra was closely related to the Lancia Dedra, 2nd Gen Delta and three Alfa Romeo models; the 145, 146 and 155. Initially offered with 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines, these were quickly phased out and replaced with a 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 and two diesels. Interestingly, a CVT was offered on the 1.6, called Selectra. Optional was a rudimentary AWD system. There was a turbocharged 2.0, but it was never offered on the SW.
The power generated by the NA 2.0 was in the 115 hp and 117 lb-ft neighborhood, pushing around a still reasonable 2700 pounds of fine Italian recycled pot metal.
Common problems included electrical, high oil consumption and water getting past the seals; in other words, not much was new at Fiat, though apparently there was some attempt to rustproof the cars (for once).
