1996-2007 Fiat Marea Weekend

Let me tell you a little secret...

Hey wait, isn't that the Brava? Well...

1996-2010 (Present?) Fiat Palio Weekend

Initially designed by I.D.E.A, the Palio got rounded edges courtesy of Giugiaro.

Lots of space for not a lot of cash.

1990-1999 Fiat Tempra SW

We continue our exploration of the station wagon and our focus on Fiat.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" you say. "K2, have you lost your marbles again and forgotten the mid-sized Fiat Tempra?"

That's one tiny windmill, which I'm assuming is to scale. Right?

Phantom Racer

Time for a little break from all the station wagon talk. Ready for a horror racing movie? Aren't they all, in one way or another? Hey-o, I'm here all week!

2016 Opel Astra Sports Tourer

I like that the mom pets the car as they walk away. And yes, this is the same car (minus the wagon part) as the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Cruze. That's the 1.6 Bi-Turbo inline four you're hearing (ain't it loud?!?), which has 158 hp and 258 lb-ft. It's interesting to note that transmission sales and production preference is heavily towards the manual. In Europe, they actually buy stick shifts, instead of complaining that they can't get them. Not that I am, mind you.

1983-1990 Fiat Regata Weekend

Why did the 131/Brava get such a short sales run here in the States? We'll probably never know (come on, yes we do...sales numbers!) and we didn't get the replacement.

Things started getting all square-shaped (as opposed to pear).

1978-1979 Fiat Brava Super Wagon

I can't remember; in the late 70s, did other automakers concurrently sell the replacement for the model they were phasing out? Fiat did.

Hey, wait a minute...don't I know you?

1975-1978 Fiat 131 Familiare

We got this one! Yay...?

Free turtlenecks for the entire family came with the car.

1969-1980 Fiat 128 Familiare/Panorama

Last week's station wagon spotlight on the Fiat 130 Opera generated quite a bit of off-blog discussion. So, what came next?

C'mon...that's just cool.

1960s-1980s Holden Station Wagons

Let me let you in on a little secret...

No Mad Max reference will be made here. Promise.

1969-1976 Fiat 130 Opera

Offered first with a 2.9 140-bhp V6, then upgraded to a 3.2 160 (some references say 165)-bhp V6 in 1970, the estate version of the 130 was a real handler while still being very comfy. The myth that it shared the Ferrari Dino engine is not true, though the bottom end is apparently the same. I don't believe it was ever officially imported into the States.

That's right; "wood" paneling...

1999-2002 Daewoo Nubria Wagon

Here's an example of the other Korean carmaker that made a go of it in the States. It didn't last long, that's for sure. But while it did, there were some somewhat appealing el-cheapo offerings, including this Nubria wagon. With Aussie-built GM/Holden 2-liter power, it boasted 129 bhp and 136 lb-ft in a roughly 2700 pound body. 0-60 was around 10 seconds and the MSRP was approximately $16K.

1983 Bentley Mulsanne Turbo Sports Station Wagon

If you missed the neat-o Bentley wagon that Bobinott brought to our attention yesterday, here it is! Apparently, typos mean nothing to the rich and fabulous. BTW, there are some other fantastic cars on that site too!

Daihatsu Charmont Van

Did you know that Daihatsu is not only the oldest Japanese carmaker? Did you also know that, as of this very month, it's now owned by Toyota? Yep. The Charmont has two generations; from 74-81 and 82-87. The station wagon was badged "Van" in the JDM.

If you guessed that the Charmont was a rebadged Corolla, you'd be right.

The Last Man on Earth

And here's the movie from yesterday. Keep an eye out for those wagons!

The Wagons of The Last Man on Earth

Vincent Price plays Robert Morgan, the last man on earth, fighting zombie-vampires in the first film adaptation of Richard Matheson's book, I Am Legend. Later remakes included The Omega Man and the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend. There are many other movies that owe more than just a little to Matheson and Price's portrayal, too.

A classic must see film.
In the 1964 movie, he wisely uses a station wagon to get rid of bodies and even replaces it with another one later in the film when the first one is damaged. Unintentionally humorously, in the film the two vehicles are used out of synchronicity. Ah well, it's still a great flick!

Okay, now I'm stuttering.

Absolutely nothing to do with the movie.

The Biggest 2017 Winner

Here it is, the 2017 IntelliChoice 5-Year Residual Value biggest winner. It's Japanese and it's...a wagon (and also a sedan)!

No, I didn't stutter.

The Biggest 2017 Loser

Here it is, the 2017 IntelliChoice 5-Year Residual Value biggest loser. It's Japanese and it's...a wagon!

Does anybody pay attention to these things when they buy a car other than me?
