I've mentioned the Croma enough that it deserves a better look.
Very Volvo-esque.
German/Korean from this angle.
There were two generations of the Croma; the first was a 5-door liftback, which available from 1985-1996. When the nameplate returned in 2005, it was a longroof.
Built on the GM Epsilon platform that we known well here (9-3, Malibu, G6, Aura) in the States, Giugiaro once again did the styling. This time around, the Croma was stretched vertically, pushing it into crossover territory, somewhat similar to the C-Max. I like the look, but it can't be denied that it's rather awkward.
Nice, if a bit somber.
There were two petrol engines, a 1.8 and a 2.2 with horsepower in the 140 range...similar enough in specs that it makes me wonder why they offered both. There were three, more popular, diesels; two 1.9s and a five-cylinder 2.4. But this time, the specs range widely enough that it makes sense; respectively, 118, 148 and 197 horsepower and 207, 236 and 295 torques.
The second-gen Croma was an unremarkable seller, thus the shortened lifespan. Check out this amazing video of Giugiaro himself describing the Croma II.
