2002-2007 Fiat Stilo Multiwagon

Italian cars are like candy; enjoyable for a moment, they rot your teeth and then they're gone.

Looks good, but it's crap.

Spit tailgates are a great idea, but I don't find them useful.
How great is the name Mulitwagon for a longroof? I mean, c'mon; that's perfect! Based on the corporate C2 platform, this was a small estate that shared bones with the Bravo and Lancia Delta.

After the Marea Weekend, everything seemed to take an evolutionary step backward. Everything from the design, engines, transmission and handling were criticized by the public, the press and it didn't sell well. It seems to me that the Italians were watching the Germans, specifically VW, a bit too closely. It's worth noting that the Multiwagon was loaded with techie gadgets; radar cruise, you-shift-'em slushbox, Column-Drive Electric Power-Assisted Steering and keyless entry.

Too bad, I rather like the styling of this wagon. But you can't win them all.

  1. These Fiat wagons look similar to what VW produced, to me, before they decided they just didn't give a damn about updating their vehicles. The evolutionary direction is highly disappointing, in my opinion.
