From Chicagoautoshow.com:
"Shown at the 1971 Tokyo Motor Show, the asymmetric gull-wing luggage doors of the F101 wagon-type sedan caught people's attention. Toyota promoted it as "the sedan of the future." With only 97 horsepower, the F101 used the same 2-liter engine found in the 1974 Corona. The oriental prototype featured four-wheel disc brakes and a fully independent suspension."
So, a Toyota and a Dodge Daytona Charger met in a bar.......
ReplyDeleteNice find, and not something I had seen before. Interestingly, a Google Image search for "Toyota RV-2" brings up a totally different concept car from the same era:

Even more strangely, included in the image search are some apparently-official promo shots with a topless model and her beau communing with nature. Definitely NSFW. I guess the 70s were a different time.
Aha! I may have solved the mystery. I think this white car is called the Toyota F101, from 1973. That is according to this page, which also includes the actual RV-2 (that green one):

Ha ha ha ha ha! You are 100% correct B, I've confused the two. I was researching the RV-2 for another project and got the two texts confused. You're also correct in that the RV-2 appears to have been marketed to swinging 70s nudists. I believe those images were from an old feature in Playboy.
ReplyDeleteThanks again and I'll correct that.
